Background

Ian was educated in Scotland and has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of St Andrews and a Masters degree in Business Management from the University of Edinburgh. He is a recognised expert in the graduate recruitment space and advises students and graduates on everything they could need to make the transition from education into the working world.

Over the past decade, Ian worked as a head-hunter in a number of highly regarded boutique search firms. He has interviewed and coached over 5,000 candidates through the interview process, and so has an intimate understanding of the job market and what it takes to be successful at the application and interview stage. He has recruited roles at all levels from graduate through to CEO, with clients in financial services (banking, asset management, hedge funds, insurance), professional services (accounting and management consulting), telecommunications, media, pharmaceuticals, retail, FMCG, local and central government, charities and social enterprise.

Ian is a British Psychological Society accredited Test User for Occupational Ability and Personality Psychometrics and is a DISC strengths assessor. He is also currently training to become an International Coaching Federation accredited Personal Performance Coach.

Ian moved into Career Consulting because it became clear to him that the current system is not giving students the personal support they often need. The graduate job market is a minefield, and his aim is to help students avoid the usual pitfalls and guide them to make the right decisions to set them up for successful and fulfilling careers.
