BACKGROUND
Megan is in her final year of studying medicine at the University of Oxford, having already graduated with a first-class BA in Medical Sciences, in the top 10% of her cohort. With a love of surgery, she is hoping to pursue a career in plastics. At A-Level Megan achieved 3A*s in Biology, Chemistry and Maths, with 2 As in French and Science AS Levels. In her GCSEs she achieved 12A*s, with a distinction in Further Mathematics.
When not in the hospital, you’ll usually find Megan cooking, painting, running or travelling. She also has a keen interest in surgical research and juggles many projects trying to provide a better evidence-base for plastic surgery.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE & APPROACH
Megan has over 1,000 hours of teaching experience and is also a tutor of Medicine at Worcester College where she studies, specialising in infection and immunity for second year undergraduates. She has worked with students of all ages and internationally, including residential posts. All of Megan’s students have gone on to exceed their target exam scores, with many securing places at top schools and universities around the world.
With an appreciation of school years as a time that can be both exciting and daunting, Megan often finds that many of the problems students face in the classroom and exams fall down to a lack of confidence, and a large part of her tutoring process is aimed at building that confidence. She provides a nurturing and encouraging environment where no question is too silly, and no mistake is too great! Really getting to know her students allows her to create a personalised plan to not only ensure success, but also enjoyment along the way. Megan helps students to develop a toolkit of techniques and resources that apply not only to that subject or set of exams, but throughout their academic career.
WHY TUTORING?
I got into tutoring many years ago through my love of learning and wanting to pass this on to others. I am extremely passionate about my subjects, and enjoy the opportunity to impart this knowledge and encourage a student to find out what interests them. Getting to know students and helping them to achieve their goals is immensely rewarding.
My favourite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. This book was given to me as a child by my late cousin and no matter how many times I read it, I always come away with a different perspective.
