Ariane was born in Norfolk and felt lucky to have Geography all around her, with the coast and Norfolk Broads on the doorstep. After taking A levels in Biology, Chemistry, English Literature and History, she went on to read Environmental Sciences at The University of East Anglia, achieving a strong 2.1 grade. As part of this undergraduate degree, she spent a year at The University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in the USA, specialising in Geology and Meteorology. Ariane spent 6 months working in Poland as a TEFL instructor before completing a PGCE in Secondary Geography in 2012 at the University of East Anglia.
Ariane enjoys travelling, as any true Geographer does, and takes any opportunity to explore new places. Most recently, travelling to New Mexico and visiting caverns and rock formations dating back to the Permian Period. Ariane is also active in keeping knowledge of her subject up to date, working with The Princes Teaching Institute and completing online CPD courses. She will also be delivering a CPD course for PTI this academic year.
Ariane is currently completing a Master’s degree in Geographical Information Science with the University of Leeds on a part-time basis. When not studying or tutoring, she enjoys skiing, yoga and listening to podcasts about a variety of topics – from true crime, to comedy.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE AND APPROACH
Ariane began teaching in 2011 with a six-month TEFL placement in Tychy, Poland where she taught all age groups a mixture of formal and conversational English, in a mixture of small group and individual tuition classes.
Ariane has spent the last 10 years teaching in two secondary schools in Norfolk, firstly as a Teacher of Humanities and then as Head of Humanities. She has extensive experience teaching year 7-11 students and is particularly familiar with both the Geography Edexcel A Level and Geography AQA GCSE specifications. Ariane’s students consistently achieve positive progress 8 scores and exceed their target grades.
She has often taught small group and individual intervention groups to support student progress, and throughout the Covid 19 pandemic and during home learning, gained experience with online learning and remote teaching.
Ariane currently freelances with YMCA Norfolk, delivering bespoke lessons online for students unable to access mainstream education due to medical needs, alongside delivering 1-1 and small group tuition. Ariane’s tutoring approach is personalised – she likes to get to know who she’s tutoring and work in a way that builds confidence and enjoyment of Geography.
