BACKGROUND

Charlotte is an Oxford master’s graduate with specialist experience in the IB and humanities subjects. After completing the IB she went on to receive a first-class degree in English Literature from Durham University and completed postgraduate studies at Oxford University in the History of Art and Visual Culture. Both degrees gave Charlotte the opportunity to hone critical analysis, research and writing skills through independent work. She is also fluent in Spanish, having grown up in Spain.

Alongside tutoring Charlotte works part-time for an academic organisation called the Institute of Art and Ideas, which runs festivals in the fields of science, politics, philosophy and art, working with leading international thinkers, academics and commentators to make academic content more accessible to wider audiences.

Charlotte is very interested in creative writing and pursues playwriting and screenwriting in her own time, an interest developed at university where she was actively involved in the Theatre society and produced several plays.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE AND APPROACH

Charlotte has been a tutor for over five years working with students across the UK, Europe, the US and Asia. Subjects have included English Literature, History, History of Art, Spanish Language and Spanish Literature at IB1, IB2, A Level, GCSE and primary level. She has also lead online tutorial classes of up to 10 international university students, guiding them on how to write academic essays at a university level.

Charlotte’s significant experience in tutoring students from all backgrounds and ages has equipped her with the skills to adapt her teaching style to students’ needs, always being flexible, open and encouraging so as to help the student excel at their subject. She has received 5-star reviews from parents and has retained students for periods longer than originally planned as a result of the success of her tutoring sessions.

Charlotte provides an open and honest space for students to recognise and achieve their full academic and personal potential and learn to their best ability. Working with past papers and supporting the completion of coursework and extended essays, she helps students understand the fundamental concepts that define their subject so that they can grasp and tackle complex essay or exam questions with confidence and tact.

WHY TUTORING?

My passion for the humanities was instilled in me from a very young age thanks to the teachers that motivated me to do well in the subject. The encouragement I received from an early age and my belief that patience, curiosity, and a willingness to learn will allow anyone to excel at the subject attracted me to the world of tutoring.

I have a love of world literature, with some of my favourite books being ‘Madame Bovary’, the works of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, and ‘Anna Karenina’, which was the focus of my personal statement and got me into Durham University.
